How Being Energy Sensitive Improves Productivity and Vibrancy

The term "energy" can mean different things to different people, and my understanding of it has certainly evolved over time. Physics defines energy as the capacity to do work, but on a personal level, we all know that the energy we wake up with can set the tone for our entire day.

If we wake up tired and sluggish, the day can feel endless as we drag ourselves through every task without motivation. On the other hand, waking up refreshed and full of energy makes us eager to tackle our tasks and even take on new challenges.

So, what exactly is this energy? What influences the energy we carry with us throughout the day, and how can we become more aware of our energy levels? If we can learn how to maintain balanced energy, could we navigate our lives with more ease and purpose?

Being energy-sensitive means being aware of how we feel in a given moment. Unlike electrical or mechanical devices that show energy levels on a meter (something I wish we had for ourselves!), we have to rely on something else. We can gauge our energy by checking in with ourselves—taking a moment to notice whether we feel tired, relaxed, or excited. By doing this, we gain insight into the most precious part of our lives—our emotions. Emotions are expressions of energy; they are "E-Motions" or energy in motion.

Understanding our energy involves two key types: Functional Energy and Expressive Energy.

1️⃣ Functional Energy: This is the energy we need to function effectively in our daily lives. It comes from many sources—the food we eat, the way we breathe, how we move, the work we do, the people we connect with, our surroundings, our sense of security, our relationship with nature, and whether we live with a sense of purpose. This energy powers our physical and mental activities, driving our productivity.

2️⃣ Expressive Energy: Just as important is the energy that arises from our emotions and self-expression. Expressive Energy depends on our ability to experience emotional freedom. If we suppress our emotions, we block the flow of energy, leaving us feeling stuck or depleted. On the other hand, letting emotions move through us without judgment or resistance keeps our energy flowing and enhances our vibrancy.

By thinking in terms of both Functional and Expressive Energy, we can better understand what steps we need to take to keep our energy flowing smoothly and what to do when we feel low. A simple walk in nature, a few moments of deep breathing, or even a quick stretch can often make a noticeable shift in our energy levels.
